All BioMat products (with exception of the Amethyst pillow) produce infrared heat by emitting long infrared rays with a wavelength of 8-12 µm through a layer of crushed amethyst crystals. All BioMat also produce negative ions.
The technology incorporated in all BioMat was developed by NASA scientists to produce Long Wave Infrared Rays in order to improve circulation in prolonged exposure to weightlessness by astronauts to prevent muscle atrophy. The main breakthrough by NASA was the ability to produce Long Infrared Rays using 12 V DC source of energy combined with carbon materials. This development made long-term use of Long Infrared Heat possible and safe for use by humans and animals.
